Creation Process
We create our paintings with museum quality and covering the highest academic standards. Once we get your order, it will be entirely hand-painted with oil on canvas. All the materials we use are the highest level, being totally artist graded painting materials and linen canvas.
We will add 1.6" (4 cm) additional blank canvas all over the painting for stretching.
High quality and detailing in every inch are time consuming. The reproduction of Francisco de Goya also needs time to dry in order to be completely ready for shipping, as this is crucial to not be damaged during transportation.
Based on the size, level of detail and complexity we need 8-10 weeks to complete the process.
In case the delivery date needs to be extended in time, or we are overloaded with requests, there will be an email sent to you sharing the new timelines of production and delivery.

We not stretch and frame our oil paintings due to several reasons:
Painting reproduction is a high quality expensive product, which we cannot risk to damage by sending it being stretched.
Also, there are postal restrictions, regarding the size of the shipment.
Additionally, due to the dimensions of the stretched canvas, the shipment price may exceed the price of the product itself.
You can stretch and frame your painting in your local frame-shop.
Delivery
Once the painting The Family of Carlos IV is ready and dry, it will be shipped to your delivery address. The canvas will be rolled-up in a secure postal tube.

The 13 figures (and the self-portrait of the painter in the background to the left) are placed, as if on an ideal chessboard, in 'wings' that are balanced with respect to Queen Maria Luisa and the King, but following diagonal axes and disposed in uneven masses. A movement and displacement are thus created in the composition, which is accentuated by the almost revolving central group; while the background is also sectioned unequally by the canvas hanging on the wall.
The magnificence of the ceremonial costumes is almost vulgar; they glitter with silks, gold and silver embroidery and masses of bejewelled and beribboned decorations. Cast shadows and thick hollows of shadow form a lowering, clouded atmosphere, an unquiet and in places anxious climate, reflected in the poses of the figures, some of which have been caught in attentive and others in distracted attitudes.
It is a group portrait of royal personages who, perhaps because of the burning vitality they emanate, forgave the artist his aggressive exposure of their characters. Goya's insight borders on cruelty as he parades the series of masks, some of which (the old Maria Josefa, the Queen) are carried boldly close to the grotesque. In all the figures there is something hooked, occasionally feral, that reveals vitality but even more the repressed or inarticulate violence of weak aristocratic temperaments - the vices of a decadent race.
