Vincent van Gogh created his masterpiece, Blossoming Almond Tree, in February 1890 as one of two paintings featuring almond trees from that period - along with Almond Blossoms in a Vase. This painting depicts an up close view of an almond blossoming branch set against a blue sky - using thick brushstrokes and painted with various hues of pink and white flowers for vibrancy and life - it has since been seen as a symbol of new beginnings and hopefulness.

Van Gogh painted Blossoming Almond Tree shortly after hearing of Theo and Jo's pregnancy with Vincent Willem in February 1890; as a gift for Theo and Jo, this painting symbolized hope for new beginnings that this baby represented.

Van Gogh had an affinity for almond trees, known for their early spring blossoms. To him they represented renewal and new life reborn; thus he frequently depicted them in his paintings. As Van Gogh wrote to his sister: "I have planted an almond tree, for my little nephew, in the south of France. It will flower in the spring, and he will see it in bloom when he comes."

This vibrant painting exudes life and energy. Bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors animate it with life. Flowers in various shades of pink and white stand out against the blue sky for added freshness and hopefulness.

This painting stands out for its unusual perspective; viewers looking up from below appear to be gazing on tree branches covered in blooms, creating an intimate and spiritual experience of nature.

Blossoming Almond Tree can be understood in various ways. Some interpret it as a symbol of hope and new beginnings with the birth of Van Gogh's nephew; others understand it more personally as Van Gogh's hope and aspirations for his future; still others see it as religious imagery reminiscent of Christ's resurrection.

Blossoming Almond Tree's meaning lies solely with each viewer, yet there can be no question that its beauty and emotion capture the spirit of new life and hope.

It was beautiful work. The color palette, the strokes and the entire finished product was near to perfect. It was gift to a cousin who visited the Van Gogh museum at Amsterdam and she was quite delighted to receive it as her wedding gift. The parcel can be improved though, when I received the product the packaging were damaged and soaked in oil, but the original painting was intact.
