George Henry Durrie (1820–1863) was an American painter known for his landscapes and rural scenes. Durrie was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and received his artistic training as an apprentice to an ornamental painter. He later studied painting with famous artists such as Thomas Couture in Paris.

Durrie is best known for his winter landscapes, which were popular in the 19th century. He used a distinctive style that featured deep, blue shadows and bright sunlight, which created a magical, almost fairy-tale-like atmosphere in his works. Durrie's paintings often depicted rural scenes, such as farmhouses and forests, in wintertime, with the snow adding a serene, peaceful feeling to the scene.

Durrie's works were popular in their time and were widely reproduced in the form of lithographs and engravings. Today, his paintings are highly sought after by collectors and are considered some of the best examples of American landscape painting from the 19th century.

In addition to his painting career, Durrie also served as a Union Army officer during the American Civil War. He was mortally wounded during the Battle of Chancellorsville in 1863 and died a few days later. Despite his brief career, Durrie's legacy as an important American artist has continued to endure, and his paintings remain popular and widely admired to this day.
