Cézanne was the son of a wealthy banker and showed an early interest in art. He moved away from the fleeting effects of light and sought a more structural approach, emphasizing the underlying forms and geometric shapes in his paintings. Despite his artistic innovations, Cézanne faced rejection from the art establishment for much of his career. He struggled to gain recognition and was consistently met with criticism and ridicule. Cézanne's breakthrough came in the late 1880s and early 1890s when his work began to be recognized and appreciated by younger artists, including the emerging Cubist painters. In his later years, Cézanne returned to Aix-en-Provence and focused on painting the Montagne Sainte-Victoire, a mountain near his home. He produced numerous studies and paintings of the mountain, exploring different perspectives and compositions.

Paul Cézanne died on October 22, 1906, in Aix-en-Provence, at the age of 67. His work continued to gain recognition and appreciation after his death, and he is now regarded as one of the most important artists in the history of Western art.
